Jennifer Lopez may have just been named by Forbes magazine today as the most powerful celebrity, but her reign at American Idol is coming to an end.
While J.Lo has publicly said she has yet to make a decision about her future on Idol, sources exclusively tell me that she she's planning on calling it quits. "She's just too busy," one source said. She's about to launch a mega concert tour with Enrique Iglesias that kicks off this summer in Latin America and the U.S. She plans to go worldwide in the fall.
I'm told Lopez will be on the road, at the very least, through the end of the year.
The next round of Idol auditions will begin while she's overseas.
The superstar apparently wants to free up her schedule next year, possibly taking a little hiatus from work to be with her kids.
"It is just like any working mom's dilemma," Lopez told us at Monday's premiere of What to Expect When You're Expecting. "It's tough. It's a balancing act. You put them first and then you have all these other things that you have to do, that you have to give your time to as well, and you have to make sure that they're OK in the process."
Fox declined to comment on Lopez's future with the show. Meanwhile, a source close to the production tells E! News that "Fox does not want to let her go. They love her."
Lopez has been on Idol for two seasons with one-year contracts for both. She went home with $12 million the first time around with a nice raise to $20 million for this season.
Now the question is, will Fox try to change Lopez's mind with a much bigger payday?
How Jennifer Lopez Climbed To No. 1 On The Forbes Celebrity 100 List
May 17, 2012 // Credit: Forbes
Last year on the annual FORBES Celebrity 100 list, a ranking of the most powerful people in entertainment, Jennifer Lopez came in at No. 50. This year, she climbed to No. 1, besting media mogul Oprah Winfrey and pop singers Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. How did the 42-year-old become the nation’s hottest and most sought after celebrity with an estimated income of $52 million in the last 12 months? Smart positioning and whole lot of hustle.
After a career slump defined by box-office flops (Gigli, Jersey Girl) and disappointing CD sales (Brave, Como Ama una Mujer), the Latina triple threat parlayed her position as a judge on American Idol into hit singles, an upcoming international music tour, a revitalized movie career, new product lines and a growing portfolio of endorsements. The newly single mother of 4-year-old twins may be the busiest woman in entertainment.
It all started with that little singing competition show on Fox. Reeling from lost strongholds like Simon Cowell and failed replacements like Ellen DeGeneres, the addition of Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler on the Idol judging table worked. Suddenly Lopez was in the living rooms of 25 million people each week. She quickly became known as the nurturing one, and successfully walked the line between “America’s sweetheart” and sizzling sex symbol, nightly stuffed into a glittering array of skin-tight outfits. Everyone was talking about her.
In the last year, Lopez racked up over 23,000 press mentions, graced 46 major magazine covers, topped People’s 2011 Most Beautiful list and became a Glamour Woman of the Year. She didn’t waste the exposure for a second. In May 2011, she released her first album in four years, Love?, with Island/Def Jam Records. She also used the Idol platform to premiere music videos and perform singles. Last year’s“On The Floor” went multi-platinum, according to RIAA, and the music video amassed over 530 million YouTube views.
When Lopez agreed to a second season of Idol, she had leverage, reportedly reupping to a massive $20 million contract, from $12 million the year before. She also became the new face of L’Oreal and signed deals with Gillette, Fiat and TOUS jewelry. In September, she launched a clothing collection for Kohl’s, which the company calls in filings “the largest in our company history both in breadth of content and sales dollars.”
“The exposure from American Idol is huge,” says Jon Albert, CEO of The Albert Company, a leading celebrity talent broker to advertisers. “It can make a career for the contestants and the judges. Advertisers see her on Idol and all the positive publicity–it would make sense that they would go after her. She’s beautiful, talented, multicultural, a movie actress and an entrepreneur. A lot of people like her. That makes her an excellent spokesperson, particularly to female consumers.”
She’s racing to keep up. This month, audiences can watch her in new movie What to Expect When You’re Expecting or pick up her new fragrance, Glowing, which is the 18th scent in a successful decade-old fragrance line with partner Coty Inc. and $2 billion in total sales. Readers of women’s magazines will also begin seeing a major new ad campaign for the perfume that features a nude and glistening Lopez.
“Our launch of Glow 10 years ago was a defining moment for both our company and the industry, reinventing the celebrity fragrance category,” says Bernd Beetz, chief executive of Coty. “Jennifer’s success is a testament to her unmatched work ethic and truly global appeal.”
In June, she will kick off her first international music tour, starting in Panama City. Her fans (12 million on Facebook and 6 million on Twitter) will get even more access to her on the just-launched website JenniferLopez.com, where she writes promotional blog posts and streams video announcements and extras.
She’s come a long way from her modest beginnings as Jenny from the Block, the girl who spent 12 years in all-girls Catholic school in the Bronx, NY, dropped out of Baruch College and got her break dancing as a Fly Girl on In Living Color at age 22. The first career climb, rocketed by her starring role in Selena in 1997 and debut album On the 6 in 1999, fizzled out amid troubled relationships, bad movie choices and mediocre music. The second coming is even bigger, taking her all the way to the top. Where could she go from here?

Jennifer Lopez and Elizabeth Banks - stars of this Friday's baby comedy movie "What to Expect When You're Expecting" are two Hollywood moms who could not be more different.
Lopez is a newly divorced, singer and actress with twin toddlers, Max and Emme, whose busy schedule includes being a judge on TV's "American Idol" and releasing top 40 pop singles.
Banks, on the other hand, has had steady career on TV and in films such as recent blockbuster "The Hunger Games." Fourteen months ago, she and her husband Max Handelman welcomed their first child, Felix.
While Banks and Lopez did not share any scenes in the film, they came together to talk with Reuters about the fictional tale based on the bestselling pregnancy book of the same name. It follows several different couples as they navigate the bumpy road to parenthood. Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford and Matthew Morrison are among the all star cast.
Over cappuccinos and sparkling water, Lopez and Banks traded stories about motherhood and how much they've changed since having little ones come in to their lives.
Q: Jennifer, in the film, your character Holly adopts a baby because she and her husband can't have kids. In real life, you were pregnant with twins. How did you relate to her?
Lopez: "Because of how much she wanted a baby. I had wanted a baby when I got married so badly. I already felt like I had waited too long. It took me three years to get pregnant (with ex-husband Marc Anthony) and during those three years, I was like, 'Gosh, maybe this is not going to happen. Maybe this is not meant for me. Maybe my life is about something else...' So I related to that wanting."
Q: Really? You have always projected an image of having everything - success in career, beauty and love.
Lopez: "When you've paved this path of being an actress or a singer, people see you and go, 'Oh your life is great and whole and complete - and you have money. That's all you need!' The truth is, that's all amazing but you really need that core. You need life, you need family, you need love. And even though Holly had a great life and a great relationship, there was still something missing - that want, that need to have a baby, to have a family, to have roots. I know what it feels like to want that so badly and finally get it."
Q: Elizabeth, you had baby via a surrogate. In the film, your character Wendy is pregnant, but it's not a glamorous pregnancy by any means. How did you connect with her issues?
Banks: "I was drawn to the authenticity of Wendy's experience. One of the things I liked about this movie is that it's not all happy, sugar coating. It's about the run-up to parenthood, which is scary and emotional and messy. It's a complicating factor in a relationship, no matter what. I loved that I had the opportunity, as Wendy, to say it like it is. And be messy and out of control."
Lopez: "I think everybody wants to have that perfect pregnancy where you look like Audrey Hepburn in your flats. I certainly tried. I had my leggings and my black turtleneck. Then someone took a picture of me from the back I was like, "IS THAT HOW WIDE I LOOK?!?!?!" On that same topic, I always feel like everybody loses their weight so fast, but that is not true! My ribs - I feel like they're just starting to get back to normal, yet my babies are four."
Q: As mothers working in entertainment, do you find your kids' childhoods vastly different from your own rearing?
Lopez: "The other day, my daughter put on my sparkling Louboutins that I have for shows and a Cartier ring that her dad gave me. I was like, 'What are you doing?!' (laughs) We're so fortunate that we have so much and the kids get some of that. But I don't want them to grow up that fast. I want to them to be like I was in the Bronx, wearing sneakers with holes in them!"
Banks: "I rarely buy my son anything, but he's not deprived. He gets lots of gifts. I'm like, 'We don't need all this stuff.' I'm constantly getting it out. It's too much crap."
Lopez: "I'm the opposite. I'm like, 'Oh that would be cute for a girl.' I buy everything. It's so bad. I still have their cribs in their room. They sleep in their bed but their crib is there and I'm like, 'I can't get rid of that. It's so beautiful!' Then I'm like, 'They're going to be five soon, it's going to be weird!' Even to take the bassinet out of my room --"
Banks: "I still have the bassinet. It's in my guest room, which is really weird when people come over to stay. They're like, 'Well you're clearly having another one.' I'm like, 'I don't know what's gonna happen, but I can't get rid of this beautiful bassinet!'"
Q: How has motherhood changed you?
Lopez: "There's a depth of feeling that you have not felt before. But you also feel guilt and fear deeper. I feel more scared of things now because of my kids. I feel more worried. Everything's more. I went jet skiing and flew off the jet ski. I was like, 'I'm a terrible mom! What if I were to die? What would happen to them?' It's those things."
Banks: "I've lost a full section of my brain power. It's gone. It's now devoted exclusively to him. So even though I'm talking to you, there's a part of my brain that's going, 'Did he eat today? Where is he? What's he doing?'"
Q: Switching topics real quick, Jennifer, you're in your second season on "American Idol." Has this experience been everything you hoped it would be when you first agreed to do it?
Lopez: "It was an unexpected career move. I always felt like people knew who I was but I realized they didn't. When I got on the show people were like, 'Oh, she's nurturing, she's a nice person. She's not the crazy girl (who demands) white sheets and candles.' 'Idol' let people get to know me. It gave people insight in to who I was in a positive way that I didn't expect."
Q: How has it impacted you career-wise?
Lopez: "When it was first offered it to me, I had my reservations. I love doing movies and I was like, 'Is it going to affect how people see me as a movie actress?' Even my singing. Will that part be over now that I'm a judge? But my gut was telling me - just do it. We had been traveling like crazy with Marc and his tour, so I thought, 'You don't have anything for these next six months. It's going to be fun.' It seemed like the right move at the time for my life. Then it turned out to be something fantastic."
It was a star-studded night as the ensemble cast of What to Expect When You're Expecting hit the black carpet for the film's LA premiere. Jennifer Lopez brought along boyfriend Casper Smart as her date, and we were there for all of the celebrity arrivals and to chat with the cast. Find out what they had to say when we asked them if the movie helped them prepare for parenting in PopSugar Rush!
Anna Kendrick, Booklyn Decker, Cameron Diaz, Chace Crawford, Caspet Smart, Jennifer Lopez, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew Morrison attended the Los Angeles premiere of "What To Expect When You're Expecting" held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The event was a huge hit as all the stars attended and hundreds of fans wanted to catch a glimpse of the all-star cast. The ladies of the film looked beautiful as they arrived and greeted their fans. While, the gentleman came dressed in their Sunday best for the grand premiere!
Adoption rumors are swirling, and JLo sets the record straight on the Ellen show. Today, Jlo says her words got a little twisted in an interview she gave about adoption. I know Im being misquoted in the press a lot. They say that I want to adopt and I had depression when I had babies, none of that's true. JLo makes it clear that she actually had not considered the idea of adoption before filming her movie What To Expect When Youre Expecting.
Jennifer Lopez was famously married to Marc Anthony and when that relationship went south, she quickly started a new one with her dancer. So everyone wonders, was there something going on before.
Clevver News on hand at the What To Expect When You're Expecting premiere where we caught up with Brooklyn Decker, Jennifer Lopez, Chace Crawford, Rodrigo Santoro Elizabeth Banks, Ben Falcone, and many more where the interview question of the night was "what kind of support group would you be in" -- you know, because of the "dudes group" in the highly anticipated movie! The celebs answers stretched across the board from sports to desserts to family issues and hobbies!
Jennifer Lopez looked divine as she strolled the black carpet wearing a gorgeous Maria Lucia Hohan gown at the What to Expect When You're Expecting premiere. E!'s own Catt Sadler and Marc Malkin were on hand to chat up the film's stars, so of course they made sure to spend some time with J.Lo.
The American Idol mama dished on her beau Casper Smart, her ex Marc Anthony and even had some advice for the new hosts of that other singing competition…
So, how do Lopez and her dancer beau decide how to work the carpet at big events like this one?
"He just does what he wants to do," Lopez said. "He knows I'm working, and we just play it by ear. We don't try to plan it too much. It's a special occasion."
And speaking of working, Lopez dished on trying to find balance when it comes to work and family.
"It is just like any working mom's dilemma," the 42-year-old thesp said. "It's tough. It's a balancing act. You put them first and then you have all these other things that you have to do, that you have to give your time to as well, and you have to make sure that they're OK in the process."
One thing Lopez has appeared to find balance with is her relationship with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, with whom she cohosts the Spanish reality competition show, Q'Viva.
"[Marc and I] are gonna be performing together in Las Vegas with our whole Q'Viva crew," Lopez said. "Marc and I were friends for 10 years before we got married. We got married, we had two beautiful children, and we're still friends. Things disappointingly don't work out the way that you dream them in your mind sometimes. That's life. But, that doesn't mean that the caring goes away or the friendship or the things that brought you together disappear. They haven't for us, so we just want to be great parents and great friends and just try to do things well for them."
And before stepping away into the premiere, the American Idol judge offered a little bit of advice for new X Factor judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
"Be yourself," Lopez said. "That's what I think every time I'm out there. Treat people how I want to be treated."
"It would be a blessing" to have more kids, Jennifer Lopez revealed to fans while promoting her new film, What to Expect When You're Expecting.
"Children just bring so much joy and happiness to your life, they bring you right back down to Earth."
But as J.Lo gushes about motherhood, boyfriend Casper Smart stopped in his tracks. An insider tells OK! the lovers have hit a major snag over J.Lo's desire to have more babies, casting doubts on the couple's future.
As Jennifer's partner, Casper now sits in on her business meetings, he directed her latest video and was recently promoted to choreographer for all of her appearances.
But as close as they are, when word got back to Casper about J.Lo’s baby talk, the 24-year-old’s jaw practically hit the floor and he “freaked out,” a close pal says.

It’s the battle of the bombshells! We all know Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz really bring it when they hit the red carpet. So, of course when the stars arrived at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre for the Hollywood premiere of What to Expect When You’re Expecting, we were mighty impressed.
But while they are both considered sex symbols, the pair have very different looks.
The actresses each opted for sexy dresses but in entirely opposing ways, and it was J-Lo who came top of the style stakes looking like a Grecian goddess in a floor-sweeping blush-coloured gown.
Meanwhile Cameron went for a more overtly sexy look in a semi-sheer black knitted dress.
We guess being outshone is what to expect when you pose on the same red carpet as J-Lo!
Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz and Brooklyn Decker were decked out to the nines while they worked the red carpet at the premiere for their new movie What To Expect When You're Expecting.
